Walk story

By Amy

Walking to the train station we saw an abandoned van that was all burnt and destroyed. When we got there it was sitting in the car park. It smelt really bad! The air had the smell of burning and fuel mixed together. It looked useless and frightening. The doors and bonnet were open and scorched, with the paint burnt away. It was hard to tell what colour it was before the fire. The tires were melted, and part of the smell was the melted rubber.

The whole front was gone, and what was left of the engine was sticking out like the intestines of a dead animal. The windscreen was gone, and the windows in the doors. There was no glass on the ground, just the broken rubble of the dead van.

The fire had only burnt the front, because as we moved around the back, the damage wasn’t as bad. There was some undamaged cream paint, which only made the destroyed front look even sadder.

It felt strange being in the car park as there were barely any cars and I was used to it being busy. It was also weird to think that someone had brought the van there and then set it on fire. I wonder who set it on fire? And why? Suddenly I wanted to get away from the van and out of the car park.

We made our way across the train tracks, which hadn’t been used in years to an abandoned storage area. It was fenced with barbed wire so we couldn’t get to it. It still looked pretty creepy, even from a distance. We walked around the fence, looking for a way to get in but we couldn’t find one. We could see nothing but the lush green field which stretched out for as far as we could see. I couldn’t hear anything but our own footsteps and the trees swaying in the wind.

I still find it strange, not seeing people about the place. It’s like all of the movies were the city had been wiped out, but this was my home town.

On our way home we went past more knocked down buildings, that were once filled with people but now only held overgrowing plants, and the abandoned toy shop. This was always extra frightening. I always try not to look to long at the broken shop and its’ unneeded interior.

Suddenly I realised that I couldn’t hear anything but the sound of my own breath, and the breathing of Emily next to me. I couldn’t hear any birds, the wind or anything else living. I wanted to get home. I felt frightened, like I was in danger.

I ran for home as fast as I could
